Watch Are You Enjoying the Time of EVE? Part One in Anime  |  View More Free Videos Online at Veoh.com

Eve of Jikan (Time of Eve) has a very interesting premise. Something which I am personally attracted to. The future of mankind, whereby co-existance with andriods (human-like robots) becomes inevitable.

Thus far, I have only watched episode 1 and 2. Each episode is about 15 min long, which is seriously too short for me as I would rather have preferred the standard 20+ min.

The setting of the story is like this. It is the future, andriods have become ubiquitous in society and are in fact currently indistinguisable from real humans except they have a holographic ring above their heads (like a halo) which flashes red and green.

Rules of Andriods

Rules of Andriods

The 3 rules of robots (ala Asimov) are also in place. (1) Do not harm humans (2) Follow the orders of humans (3) Protect oneself. The 3 rules, even though the anime does not mention it, follows in order of priority. Meaning that for rule 2, the andriod can only follow the orders of a human if they do not violate rule 1. One very interesting point made in the show is that they (the andriods) are not explicitly told not to lie.

Now the story thus far is about these 2 school boys who chanced upon a Cafe that allows andriods and humans to mix together, without knowing whether the other people there are humans or andriods. Now this has some serious implcations as andriods are supposed to be non-thinking entities whose sole purposes are to serve their masters (or that’s what society would want them to think). So this cafe is like a safe haven for andriods to come and be like normal people, and interact, something bordering on being criminal.

Anyway, to summarize for my perspective, in episode one, the human boy realises a truth, that people (or andriods in this case) may not be what they seem on the surface. In episode two, he realises that there is more to humanity than being organic.

Overall it seems like an excellent anime to follow, and that will be exactly what I will do.

Cheers! Till next time…
